Binaries for development and production use
will be available from
Oracle and in most popular Linux distributions. Only developers and enterprise administrators should download these releases. The JDK includes tools useful for developing and testing programs written in the Java programming language and running on the JavaTM platform. The JDK is a development environment for building applications using the Java programming language. It contains the JRE as well as a lot of other useful stuff for developing Java applications. GraalVM for JDK 21 will receive updates under the GFTC, until September 2026, a year after the release of the next LTS.
Java SE subscribers have more choices
Actually, after Java 1.4 they created the JCP, to involve the community in the development of Java itself, and starting from Java 1.5 it is officially named “Java 5”, despite most in the industry calling java 7 certifications it 1.5. Also, Java 1.2 was Java 2, but everyone I know who was not working in Sun at that time always called it 1.2. These downloads can be used for development, personal use, or within Oracle Cloud.
